When it snowed briefly in London, I ran out while in the middle of writing my gazillion essays and got my dad to take photos of me as Hetalia's Iceland. It was fun to do a quick shoot like that - though I had to set up pretty much every shot due to my dad not quite understanding how to use his own camera (note: "my" Nikon is actually his.) The puffin was given to be by fukkafyla and goes by the name of Glúmur. I have another one that ~hikaraseru gave me (also from Iceland), but it will make an appearance next time we shoot the nordic characters -- which will be if it snows again.
I have the mentality of a 5-year-old so *I* hope it snows again, though I think most people would hope for the contrary.
Here's a random but otherwise interesting article about the worst type of snow in Iceland: [link]
I'd like to learn more about things like this!
I plan to go to Iceland this February and will be your typical shutter-happy tourist; if the pictures turn out well, i'll be spamming a little, maybe. I HOPE TO GOD ICELANDAIR WON'T STRIKE ON THE DAYS I'VE BOOKED. Though I think it would be pretty awesome if I ended up stranded. Yeah. Treacherous roads and flying pots of skyr notwithstanding, I'd like to see if I survive.
p.s/. This photo was brightened (curves) and sharpened, and that was it. Other unedited photos from the shoot are below, if you'd like EXIF data or anything, let me know:
What kind of fabric did you use to the jacket? I'm currently doing research for my fem!Iceland cosplay and I really liked the look of your jacket! And the rest of the cosplay, you look so good in it! C:
I'm afraid I don't know the name of the material as it was picked out by my friend. I'm also not skilled enough to tell you what it is by looking at it - I'm still quite amateur so I tend to go to fabric shops and choose materials by feel and weight rather than by name ;;; I'm really sorry ><;;
I'd say that it's a medium weight-ish fabric (it's lined) that has a sort of matte feel similar to suede. It's definitely not real suede, but if you look out for that brushed/matte look that's what we were going for u3u.
Ahh thank you;; Honestly my friends and I tend to like military jackets in general so for things like Hetalia we try to get them to look as usable as possible so that they can be worn in daily life as well |D
I'm not so sure I could be the real thing but it's good to know that it doesn't look out of place!
You make such an adorable Iceland! And this is a great photo for a last minute shoot. XD
And I just have to say I know exactly how you feel about developing attachments to certain countries because of this. I'm kind of the same way about Norway, it might have started out with Hetalia and cosplay, but after so much extensive research on the country's history and culture and everything... It has made me interested enough to want to plan a trip there someday.
Judging by your photos you've already made your trip, I hope you enjoyed it!
Haha, I think Hetalia sort of made me appreciate a lot of things about the world that I took for granted. I hope you manage to journey to Norway one day! I'm hoping to work my way around the world in some small ways, too. When I work and earn enough money, that'll be my aim.
I did enjoy the trip immensely! I feel as if I really want to go back again soon, in another season perhaps~
Haha I know what you mean. I know some people just have fun with the series for what it is, but I couldn't help going deeper into the research in regards to finding out more information and history about certain countries. I do hope to visit other places as well, but like you I would definitely need to save up for it. I'm glad you had a great time in Iceland, I have a friend who visited there for a month and she loved it!
Awsome! I want to go to Iceland as well some day! <3 Your cosplay is really wonderful as well. I'm planning on cosplaying him somewhere this year, so I hope you don't mind me asking some questions~? C: Did you buy the wig on ebay? (any tips?) Did you make the costume.. or bought it..? And more importantly.. how the hell did you do that with your eyebrows? (I tried to change my eyebrows' colour for an other cosplay, but I didn't know how... and what I tried didn't work well >__>)
The wig was my friend's, she bought it off ebay for something else and I bought it off her. I think it's best to look for a colour that's not too white - because this is a very pale shade of grey-blonde and it generally looks less artificial.
The jacket itself was a birthday gift from a friend who made the pattern and got it tailored. I'm not sure of the details. The rest was either bought from thrift stores or made by me.
As for the eyebrows, I put eyelash glue on them and dabbed white eyeshadow over it. It's a very effective method and I definitely recommend it.
Hello, this is like the latest reply ever, I know. But I didn't reply so I could keep your reply in my messages.. if I'd reply it would go away and I'd probably fail at findig it back. (does that even make sense? I feel like I'm scaring you or something. Sorry oAo)
Anyways, I do want to thank you for your reply ^^ I have been looking for a wig lately, but I can only find ones that are too dark... or they just have a total different cut. Do you perhaps know where you friend needed the wig for? (as in: for a certain cosplay? So I could search for that)
I think the cosplay she bought it for was someone from Vampire Knight. Maybe the character was Ichiru because it was longer before we cut it. We don't tend to search for wigs based on characters though, so I don't know if this will help very much.
This is such a great shot! This makes me want to cosplay Iceland again, I have to remember to find a better wig for him. You make a great Iceland, I'm glad there was snow that day so you could have a photoshoot.
Also, thank you for posting the link to that blog about the snow, all those posts on the website are really interesting! Definitely makes me want to explore Iceland. I hope your trip there went well and you enjoyed the country! : D
Snow is pretty awesome. I never really realized how much I loved it until I spent a winter away from my home in Vermont (one of the most northeastern states in the US). It's a pain to drive in the snow, but boy is it pretty.
Iceland is such a fascinating country! I just spent the last three and a half weeks learning about the Icelandic sagas, and the Icelanders just have such a distinct character. Have you been to any other Scandinavian countries besides Iceland? Are there any places to visit/things to see in Iceland that you would recommend from your time there?
Snow gets on peoples' nerves here because they seriously can't deal with it. Everything shuts down, but I still think it's super romantic and pretty despite the fail logistics. I can't resist running outside and taking photos when it does, though I don't deny it's bloody troublesome. ;w;
Ahh, I wanted to read some of the sagas, but I never got round to it. I've not actually been to any of the other Nordic countries, but I'm planning to visit all my friends in a round trip one day~ ;w;
I don't feel I'm qualified to be an authority on this, so I'll direct you to this website: [link] there's a lot about what to see and what to visit if you take a trip to Iceland, but also some great things about the culture and current events! :'>
